Coi Leray has been a powerhouse in hip-hop for over five years, with her fast flow, polished delivery, and catchy choruses. By continuously providing songs that live in-car stereos, clubs, and, of course, TikTok, she has contributed to the stratospheric growth of women in hip-hop. Her latest single, 'Blick Blick', featuring Nicki Minaj, is a testimony to her growing popularity.
Coi's life has been a whirlwind during the last few years. With her RIAA Certified Platinum hit single 'No More Parties,' the Boston-born and New Jersey-raised actress initially broke into the Top 30 of the Billboard Hot 100 at the start of 2021, making her late-night television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
It's been up since then. Coi graced the cover of XXL Magazine's prized Freshman class in the spring of '21, racking up award nominations across the board, from Favourite Female Hip-Hop Artist at the 2021 American Music Awards to Best Female Hip-Hop Artist and Best New Artist at the 2021 BET Awards.
Coi retains her style of pure vibes and creativity, blended with mainstream appeal, as she approaches the next step of her career with the release of her long-awaited debut album 'TRENDSETTER'—armed with her current single.
In its first week, 'Trendsetter' was anticipated to sell 11,000 copies. If the estimates are accurate, the project will sell around 35,000 fewer units than Lil Durk's 7220, which is projected to reclaim the top place next week. Following Trendsetter's first-week prediction sales, critics pounced on her previous bold remarks that her milestone project would reach No1. Benzino, a guy who claimed to be her father, also teased Leray over the low numbers.
With lower than anticipated sales Coi remains undaunted and responded on Twitter by posting, ' can't complain about anything. My debut album is amazing, and not one song can you say is bad," she wrote. "It been 5 days. I understand Coi Leray is so viral & works good on blogs headlines but trust me, it's all part of the game just ride out andstayfocus.'
