Beyoncé's "Renaissance" is receiving acclaim and smashing new Spotify records.
The superstar's much awaited seventh album Renaissance, her first solo studio effort since 2016, has received acclaim throughout the globe in its first few days. The record was the most played album by a female artist in a single day in 2022, according to a Spotify announcement on Friday.
It's hardly surprising that the record has already been dubbed "the most talked-about release of the year", considering Queen Bee's sway over the music industry. Due largely to the album's leak less than two days before its scheduled premiere, the album and its song names have dominated Twitter trends in the days preceding its release.
Despite its enormous popularity, the album has already generated considerable debate. The musician Kelis, widely known for her 2003 hit "Milkshake," called Beyoncé out for using some of her music without getting her permission.
The artist also accused her former producer of cheating her out of writing credits from the two albums they collaborated on.
Beyonce responded to the controversy by removing the interpolation despite the fact that Kelis has no writing credit or ownership of the sound recording for "Milkshake."
