The Institute of Caribbean Studies at UWI Mona Welcomes Renowned Leaders as Residents

The Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS) at The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona is thrilled to announce the appointment of three exceptional individuals as honorary lecturers for the next two years. Augustus Clarke, Clyde McKenzie, and Seretse Small will serve as entrepreneurs in residence, professionals in residence, and artists in residence, respectively, bringing their extensive experience and expertise to enrich the educational experience for students.


Sparking Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Augustus Clarke, a renowned entrepreneur, will take on the role of Entrepreneur in Residence. Mr. Clarke's proven track record of success will be invaluable to students pursuing the Entertainment and Cultural Enterprise Management (ECEM) B.A. degree program. He will provide invaluable insights, mentorship, and guidance, fostering a spirit of innovation and entrepreneurial thinking within the next generation of Caribbean leaders.

Invaluable Industry Expertise: Clyde McKenzie, a respected professional with a wealth of experience in the cultural and entertainment industries, joins the program as Professional in Residence. Mr. McKenzie's practical knowledge and deep understanding of the current business landscape will equip students with the tools and strategies they need to navigate the dynamic world of entertainment and cultural enterprises.

Bridging the Gap Between Arts and Business: Seretse Small, a celebrated artist, rounds out the trio as Artist in Residence. Mr. Small's artistic vision and entrepreneurial spirit will be a source of inspiration for students, demonstrating how artistic talent can be successfully translated into a thriving career. He will bridge the gap between artistic expression and business principles, fostering a holistic understanding of the creative industries.

Dr. Dennis Howard, Lecturer and Coordinator of the Entertainment and Cultural Enterprise Management (ECEM) B.A. programme, expressed his delight at the appointments: "We are incredibly fortunate to have these distinguished individuals join our programme. Their expertise and diverse perspectives will be instrumental in shaping the next generation of Caribbean cultural and entertainment leaders."


Dr. Dave Gosse, Senior Lecturer and Director of the Institute of Caribbean Studies, added: "We are thrilled to welcome Augustus, Clyde, and Seretse to the ICS’ family. The residency programme is designed to provide students with invaluable real-world experience and mentorship from accomplished professionals. Through workshops, guest lectures, and individual consultations, the residents will contribute significantly to ICS students' intellectual and professional development.


The Institute of Caribbean Studies at UWI Mona is committed to fostering a vibrant learning environment that prepares students for success in the dynamic world of entertainment and cultural enterprises. With the addition of these esteemed residents, the Undergraduate programmes are poised to reach new heights, empowering students to become future leaders in the Caribbean cultural landscape. The ICs offer three B.A. programs: Entertainment and Cultural Enterprise Management, Music and Performance Studies, and Cultural Creative Industries. It also offers a Master of Art In Cultural Studies and an MPhil/Ph.D. in Cultural Studies.
