Snoop Dogg has bought the label Death Row, which launched his career.
The rap legend, who got his start on Death Row Records, has purchased the renowned label from MNRK Music Group, controlled by private equity funds managed by the world's top financial firm, Blackstone.
The transaction's terms were not announced, but Variety claims that the acquisition of the Death Row brand is the first step of the agreement, which would also include Snoop obtaining the rights to his songs and the music of undisclosed other artists.
According to Snoop, 'I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value.'
Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, The D.O.C., and Dick Griffey founded Death Row in 1992. With a roster that included Snoop, Dre, Tupac Shakur, Nate Dogg, and Warren G, it became one of the most influential labels of rap music.
