NY: R&B singer Chris Brown was the first superstar to recognise Nigy Boy's phenomenal talent in 2022 when he shared a post on Instagram (IG) story to his 145 million fans that said, "This brother is super raw" with tons of fire emojis. Today, Nigy Boy is the hottest new artiste in the dancehall space, amassing 2 million plus views on YouTube in less than a week with his global hit 'Continent.'
"It’s definitely an indescribable feeling to know that I am the most trending artist in the reggae/dancehall space," the newly crowned 'Continent Boss' shared.
Earlier this week, Nigy Boy and his manager Christopher Crooks, aka Dr Love, met with Downsounds Records/Reggae Sumfest head honcho Joef Bagdanowich in Manhattan to discuss business over drinks. What did they talk about? Performing at Sumfest, a Downsounds record deal, artist co-management?
While the team was tight-lipped about details of the meeting, Nigy Boy did say, "There are a lot of things going on in the pipeline at the moment. I am always ready for a performance in my hometown. Mobay is my place, and it’s an honour to be among individuals who are out representing the parish to the fullest,'' he explained.
Grammy-winning platinum music magician Rvssian is credited with producing 'Continent' on his popular 'Dutty Money' riddim.
"Working with Rvssian was a fluid and seamless process. Everything just happened like magic. It was an experience I’ll never forget," he explained.
Days after the song was mastered, Rvssian flew Director/Producer Rizzy and his crew from Florida to New York to shoot the video for Continent.
"I flew into New York, shot the video, edited and released it within 24 hours" Rizzy shared with Riddim Style.
"The man can handle himself" he exclaimed!
"There was a time when I opened a door at the shoot and he could tell it was opened, by just the air coming in. He may not be able to see but he is very aware of what is happening around him" Rizzy shared.
Fans globally have logged on to the track. "Took a blind man to see what dancehall needed," @Jamminjamiel posted.
"This is music. This is dancehall. This is raw talent, excellent vibes, and a timeless classic. New favorite song." @toni7808
"He’s doing things that a person with 2020 vision can’t do. Salute to him." @MenshealthTips101
Reacting to some of the posted comments, Nigy said, "Some people think I have the potential to save dancehall, but truthfully, I’m just being a musician, expressing myself in the best way I know how. It just so happens that I don’t have to be overly explicit to get my messages across. I love the music of my culture, but at the same time I aim to create a flavor that can resonate globally and not just within the Caribbean diaspora" he explained.
Some predict it is just a matter of time before record labels in the US come calling.
"I definitely see a major label deal happening in the foreseeable future, but for now I’m just trusting the process, putting in the work, maintaining consistency, and exceeding my own expectations" he reiterated.
Nigy's catalogue of songs include 'Waterfalls' featuring Mr Vegas, 'You And I', 'Lover Not A Fighter' and 'Superwoman' which was dedicated to his mother.
