Introducing Stephen Souza

One of the finest voices to emerge in lover's rock is Stephen Souza. It was veteran broadcaster Ken Williams, who first referred to the New York based crooner as ‘The Reggae Gentleman’. Born in England, Stephen grew up in the parish of Manchester in Jamaica. He started his musical career as the lead singer of the Manchester High School Band Phase II who performed all over the adjoining parishes.

Stephen migrated to the United States and quickly immersed himself into the New York music scene as a featured singer on numerous sound systems such as Downbeat the Ruler, Papa Moke , Roundtown, and Genesis Sound.

As his popularity grew Stephen was soon in studio recording for top producers such as Basil Marshal, George Golding, Sydney Mills, Errol "Willo" Wilson, Philip Smart, Earl Moodie, Junior Baugh and Lloyd Campbell.

These colloborations produced several singles and albums including, 'If You were Mine', 'Revised' and 'The Reggae Gentleman'. Hit singles include such as "Say Yes" If You Were Mine" "Treat Her Like A Lady" "Silhouette", "Sounds Explosion", "Sensi Smoker" and "Starting Over (We're Gonna Make It)".

Souza is also featured on numerous compilation albums namely, Sweet Love Vol 2 ,One Harmony Music Presents. Vol 1 & 3 Tribute To Channel One Vol 1, Riddim Train Vol 3 & 5, Band Wagon Riddim, Jah Kingdom Riddim and One Harmony Music Presents The Classic Lovers Riddim.

The singer/songwriter has penned songs for other artists such as 'Tell Me You’re Not Leaving', for Erika Newell of Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, and Co-wrote Dobby Dobson & Rula Brown's Hit Seems To Me I'm Winning (Remix). He also scored a hit collaborations with International Songstress Pam Hall 'Save The Last Dance For me, and 'Best Of Me' with the late great Frankie Paul.

Stephen has performed extensively in the Tri-state area working night clubs and major reggae festivals performing alongside mega stars such as Beres Hammond, Wayne Wonder, Tarrus Riley, Mr. Vegas, Beenie Man, Baby Cham, Elephant Man, and Sean Paul.


His 2019 EP 'My Love Is True' was nominated for an AWLS Award in the United Kingdom and is presently #4 on the Foundation Radio Network New York Chart and #12 on the Foundation Radio Network South Florida Chart.

He is now managed by Rocket Entertainment led by Princess Zambia and made his movie debut as a featured actor in the hit movie 'Made In New York A Jamaica Movie', which also featured his single 'I Marry My Friend' on the sound track. His latest album is entitled Symphony produced by Samuel "Musical Genius" Dyett for One Harmony Music.
