Born in Derby to Jamaican parents who moved to the UK for 'a better life' in the 60s, DJ Sapphire is now living in Tottenham, London. Her dad returned to Jamaica some years ago for 'a better life' and her mum is still in Derby 'living her best life'!
DJ Sapphire (who was a reggae singer with General Skank and also sang backing vocals for various soul and blues bands) joins the Riddim1 Radio team and will be presenting Smooth Jazz Is Bumpin’ on Sundays from 5.00pm till 7.00pm EST. DJ Sapphire is delighted to be doing a show in Jamaica saying:
'Doing a show on a Radio Station in Jamaica is a dream come true. I often imagine, whilst listening to smooth jazz, how great it would sound whilst lounging on the beach or even on my dad’s verandah!'
DJ Sapphire is the founder and host of the Smooth Jazz Lounge, which initially opened its doors in October 2015 in Tottenham and was held at various venues in and around London from 2017. Since the pandemic, she hosted the event on Zoom which was very successful as she was able to interview and get to know many great artists in the smooth jazz genre and also meet, virtually, her avid listeners to her shows.
DJ Sapphire is also a radio host on The Soul of London Radio, playing the best in smooth jazz and soul on Mondays 1-3 pm and Thursdays 6-8 pm GMT. You can always catch her past shows on her YouTube Channel – DJ Sapphire.
