Christopher Birch is the CEO of Birchill Music. This company was formed in 2004. Before that, Birch was a member of the famous '809 Band'. This band included some stalwarts of Jamaican musicians, which were Dean Frazer, Micheal Fletcher, Nambo Robinson, to name a few. They played for legends such as the late Dennis Brown and Gregory Issacs, Freddie McGregor, Buju Banton, and so much more. Birch also played for the iconic Diana King.
He then became a member of the Big Yard family, touring with Shaggy. Shaggy used one of Birch's tracks on his multi-platinum album 'Hot Shots'. From then, Birch created some memorable dancehall rhythms, which includes: 'Salsa,' 'Thriller,' 'Military,' 'Gansta Rock'.
Birch's rich history and good reputation as a musician and a producer drove the collaboration idea of 'High'. Working with Birch was always a desire of Kalyra's manager - Elisha Ellis, a professional musician and aspiring manager. Ellis and Birch met in 2016; they shared the stage a few times and exchanged wholesome conversations about the music industry.
Kalyra (pronounced ka-lee-rah) was then introduced to Birch by Ellis, and together they created her debut single 'High'. The making of the track was a bit tricky. They explored different tempos, sounds and styles of reggae to see which one worked best with the song idea, which originated from the young talent. The team came up with a groove, and when it was done, they knew it was the right one.
'High' is about desire and the will to fulfil that desire. The kind of desire that many of us yearn for as humans is intimacy - one of the fundamental emotional needs that allow us to thrive in our interpersonal relationships. It's about having the freedom to say what you want and when you want it, regardless of the conditions. Kalyra felt that as women, we could not freely express our emotions, so what better way to do it than through a song. This also gave her the avenue to exercise her creative abilities.
From our observations, Kalyra is a very talented individual who has been gifted with songwriting, singing, choreographing and dancing. She has a great personality. a good work attitude, and aptitude. There's no limit as to how far her career will go.
